This week we have begun work on measurement in our class. The students will be working on measuring with a ruler to the nearest inch, 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch. We will then be working on liquid measurement and mass.
There are a few things you can do at home to help practice this skill as well. You can let your child practice measuring things around the house with rulers and tape measures. Be sure they line the ruler up at the 0 or if there is no 0 on the ruler, they need to line it up at the beginning of the ruler. We focus on the inch, 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch. They can also practice measuring to the cm.

To help with liquid measure, you can have your child find examples of gallons, quarts, pints, and gallons at the grocery store. We also use "Mr. Gallon" to help students remember the conversions.
